Study Tour at Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra

 

It has been universally accepted that no study of natural science can be adequate enough without any field observation. In fact, the lacunae of Text book baised studies inside the boundaries of the classroom can only be bridged up by adequate field studies, so that the students can have the opportunity to understand the natural phenomena in the arena of the nature itself.

In accordance, university of Calcutta has recommended for an educational excursion for the student of zoology in order to impart, in a limited sense through fundamentals of wild life in reports. Accordingly we the student of third year and second year Zoology honours of “SISTER NIBEDITA GOVT. GENERAL DEGREE COLLEGE FOR GIRLS”, went on an excursion to “NAWEGAON NAGZIRA TIGER RESERVE FOREST, Maharashtra.

A seventeen member team comprising two students from B.Sc. third year, eleven students from B.Sc. second year, two teachers, Debjani Banerjee (Mukherjee) and Dr. Samir Mandal left Kolkata on 14th December, 2018 for Gondia by Gitanjali Express from Howrah Station. Team reached Gondia station at 5:30 am on 15th December and proceed to Navegaon national park forest rest house inside the National park area beside the beautiful Navegaon Dam.  We started our journey by safari at Navegaon National Park on the same day at 2:30 pm. Next day morning we started our field work as bird watching at Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary guided by our experience teachers and a expert bird watcher of the national park. After launch we started our journey towards Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary. On that day and next day we took there total three jungle safaris with an expert guide in each vehicle everytime. They and our teachers helped us to find out the animals in the jungle and also explained the relevant topics and it’s fauna in a very simple and explicit way. Every day in the in the night after completed our dinner, we discussed various topics related to our syllabus and also exchanged views with our teachers on many other topics related to our excursion. The team returned to Gondia station in the evening of 17th December, 2018 and reached Kolkata on 18th December, 2018 by Howrah Express. Though the visit was very short, but we had gathered some unforgettable and real important knowledge about ecosystem.
