Department of Physics
Welcome to the Physics Department at Sister Nibedita Government General Degree College for Girls! Our department is committed to nurturing a profound understanding of the physical world, from the fundamental laws governing matter and energy to the vast wonders of the universe. With a strong focus on both theoretical concepts and hands-on experimentation, we equip students with the skills to explore diverse topics, including classical mechanics, quantum physics, thermodynamics, and astrophysics. Under the guidance of our experienced faculty, students are encouraged to think critically and engage deeply with the subject matter. Whether you aspire to pursue further studies or embark on a career in science and technology, our department provides a dynamic and supportive environment to foster intellectual curiosity and growth.
Established in 2015, the Department of Physics at Sister Nibedita Government General Degree College for Girls, Hastings House, initially offered Physics as a general subject to students of Mathematics, Computer Science, Geology, and other Honours programs. In 2018, the department introduced the 3-year B.Sc. Physics Honours program under the CBCS curriculum, which has successfully been running for seven academic years. From the 2023-24 academic year, the CBCS curriculum has been replaced by the 4-year B.Sc. Physics Honours program under the CCF curriculum. The department's laboratory is well-equipped, and the central library offers an extensive collection of advanced books for both Physics Honours and General Physics students.
Our department is devoted to providing high-quality education and fostering scientific research. We offer undergraduate programs focusing on core areas such as mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum physics, and thermodynamics, complemented by practical laboratory experience. We aim to support the holistic development of our students, preparing them for successful careers in academia, industry, and research.
